This wall mounted plaque depicts the history and development of the cricket bat on an oval backing which is 34cm in height.
Eight Cricket Bats are featured in this special plaque. The Early Curved Bat from 172o when the cricket ball was bowled underarm along the ground. The Curved Bat, 1750, is a further evolution of the crooked club. Its blade has more weight at the base as a counter to the underarm bowling of the period. By the mid 18th Century the bowler was allowed to lob the ball. This gave a greater advantageagainst the curved bat so a new revolutionary shape evolved.
