Product Description

This is an illustration of the development of the cricket bat from 1720 to modern times. Weighing in at approximately 2.25lbs/1 kg this high quality resin plaque is rather substantial. This wall mounted plaque depicts the history and development of the cricket bat.

Its dimensions are approximately 11.5" width x 10.5" (29cm c 26cm), and it is a one-seventh scale replica size of the Bats taken from the MCC Collection at Lord's Cricket Ground.

Eight Cricket Bats are featured in this special plaque. The Early Curved Bat from 172o when the cricket ball was bowled underarm along the ground. The Curved Bat, 1750, is a further evolution of the crooked club. Its blade has more weight at the base as a counter to the underarm bowling of the period. By the mid 18th Century the bowler was allowed to lob the ball. This gave a greater advantage against the curved bat so a new revolutionary shape evolved.

Historic Cricket Bat Design

"Little Joey" originated in 1792 and belonged to the Hambledon player Ring, whose style of play originated the leg before wicket (LBW) rule. By the end of the 18th Century the experimental nature of cricket bat design had at last come to an end. From 1973 there is the Bagot "Skyscraper". The other hotorical bats in this collection feature Fuller Pilch's Bat (1835), WG Grace's Bat (1901) and Jck Hobbs' Bat from 1930.

This high quality resin plaque, based upon an original at Lord's, is a wonderful way to appreciate the development of the cricket bat from 1720-1930. It comes boxed and ready to hang on the wall - available direct from cricshop.com.
