International Cricket Memories

The early games were largely contested between parish teams on what we would call a 'village cricket' basis. At this time the game was also exported and introduced to other parts of the world. In fact the first ever international cricket match took place in 1844 at Elysian Fields, New Jersey, between the USA and Canada. The first Test Match took place in 1877, between Australia and England. Nowadays the Test Match nations also include South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Many forms of cricket have developed throughout the 20th Century and, alongside County and Test Match cricket, one-day versions of the game evolved. There are now domestic limited overs knock out competitions, One Day Internationals, and the Cricket World Cup was first staged in England in 1975.
